Bathroom remodel Mitchism

Frank has been working on remodeling our master bathroom for a while now(have I mentioned that here?!) and Mitch loves to help him. He is really close to being done and this weekend we all got to take a shower in our new shower...alleluia!! It is so nice and big that you can turn around, bend down, maybe even lay down. What a treat! Frank took off the baseboards on Sunday so he could get ready to paint and Mitch noticed that there were 4 nails sticking out of the wall and for the past 2 days he has been pestering Frank about pulling them out. Tonight it went like this..."DAD I need for you to take those nail out of the wall so I don't get hurt on them and have to go get a "tennis" shot that would hurt me for FOUR days!" Oh, the guilt! Frank did finally take the nails out and all the while I was laughing on the bed reading Megan a book. I would say poor Frank but I really think this is payback.

A trip to the dentist

I took both kids to the dentist today. Going to the dentist today is so much different than I remember as a kid. When I was little our dentist was an old man and the only treat I got was a pack of sugar free gum from the receptionist who was the dentist's wife. Now, at the dentist I take the kids to it's an all out jungle, literally! The staff wears animal scrubs, there are monkeys hanging from the ceiling, the walls are painted with jungle murals and elephant and monkey noises can be heard when the hygienist calls for the dentist. The staff is great with the kids and Mitch loves going to the dentist. Megan even did really well this time and let them examine her with out much of a fuss at all. I think the only part I don't like is the bill at the end, because since this place is so great and so much fun you also pay for the experience and since we don't have dental insurance it really hits us in the pocket. I guess that's what you get for not freaking your kids out at an early age and making sure they have healthy teeth.

Oscar night

Megan and I watched the red carpet portion of the Oscars together last night and she was so cute! We sat on the couch together drinking our hot(hers was warm) cocoa and looking at all the beautiful dresses. Every time we saw one she liked she would ask "where their slippers mommy?" She is 2 1/2 and already obsessed with shoes! We had a good night and it was fun to spend time on the couch doing girl-y things with her.

More wise Mitchisms

I had to have a CAT scan today because I have been having back pain after a UTI and my (hot) doctor wanted to check for kidney stones. At dinner, Mitch wanted to know if I had to have a CAT scan to check to make sure there were any cats inside me that might want to get out like babies do. It was a good 5 year old question, but Frank and I were laughing so hard. He's such a funny kid! BTW...the CAT scan was normal so the back pain is most likely from straining when I lift Megan who is growing like a weed. I didn't have to go back and see my (hot) doctor I just talked to him on the phone. It was a long, weird day but at least Mitch lightened it up for us.

Redeemed

Frank redeemed himself today. I took the kids to a friend's for a playdate all morning and when we got home there was a huge bouet of purple roses(my fav) on the kitchen table. I think I made such a stink about what a stinker he was last weekend on my birthday that he made up for it today. This was probably one of the best Valentine Day's since our very first 15 years ago. He was so sweet today! He always takes me by surprise when I am not looking and makes me remember why I really do love him.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

War at our house

It's been all out war at our house this morning. Megan vs. Mitch style. Phew, am I glad it's naptime. I actually put them down a half hour early because the taunting just wouldn't end. I remember being like this with my sister so I guess it has come full circle. There was this book my mom would check out from the library when my sister and I would really get at each other that had some title like No Fighting, No Biting. Today we needed no hitting, slapping, pinching, locking your brother out of the house, sneezing on your brother, smacking your sister with a watch, stepping on your sister's book...book. Really, I am laughing as I write this because it was just that funny this morning. And (sarcastically)I can't wait until they are 15 and 13!!

Updates

I've been in sort of a funk this week and just haven't had a chance to blog about the weekend. It started off as a nice birthday but I guess along the line I may have forgotten to inform my dear husband that when I said all I wanted for my birthday was to sleep in and eat chocolate donuts I really did mean just that. So, when I was laying in bed on Sunday and I could hear Mitch in his room and Megan in her crib and Frank was still snoring away at 7am I was a little grouchy. And then I got even grouchier when I poked him a little and asked if he would get up with them. Then REALLY grouchy when he rolled over, pulled the covers over his head like he does every weekend and went back to sleep. So I was up at 7:15am on Sunday, my birthday, not sleeping in OR eating chocolate donuts. I won't whine about the rest of the day but we did go to this new(to us) restaurant we found called La Loma and had really good Mexican food. All I wish for this year is good health all around. To 31!

Let the Celebrating begin

I started off my birthday weekend last night scrapbooking with a bunch of girlfriends, today my sister and I went to lunch and got manicures and hit some great clearance sales, tonight we went out for Italian food with all my inlaws, tomorrow is the big day and I hope to eat lots and lots of chocolate, relax, spend time with the kids and read a book, and Monday I will finish it off celebrating with my dad and the rest of our family. My dad's birthday is the 9th so we always celebrate together sometime around our birthdays. So far, it has been really nice. My sister and I had a great time this morning and found some really good deals at the Eddie Bauer outlet at the Mills. I was hoping to find more at the Children's Place for Megan but everything was too small or too big for. This time of year is great for some good bargin shopping.

Mitchisms

I thought I would share a few of the funny things Mitch has said lately...

To the Doctor at urgent care..."my Dad likes it when I pull his finger to help him fart." Frank was mortified because this comment had nothing to do with Mitch's sprained arm.

To our friend John who had us over for the Superbowl..."we have little butts at our house and you have big butts. Thanks for letting me go poop at your house!"

"Are the Cheetah Girls called Cheetahs because they cheat a lot?"

February 1st!

I can't believe it's already February! I like February, but I also don't. It can be cold, it's still the middle of cold and flu season, the weather is rather drab and dry(I was going to say dreary but it's really never dreary in CO), and Christmas has come and gone but Spring isn't quite here yet. On the other hand, if you are me, February can pass you by in a blur because my birthday is on the 8th, Frank and I got engaged on the 6th, we started dating on the 12th and then there is that holiday thrown in on the 14th that is all about love. For Frank, all he sees is $$. This year I am hoping 31 is a much better year than 30. We aren't doing anything too grand to celebrate this year and all I really want to do is sleep in and eat chocolate donuts. I'll let you know next Monday if that really happened. Oh, and no whining!
