Two Weeks

We've passed the two week mark of limiting dairy and gluten in Mitch's diet and I am happy to say that he is doing really well and we have his asthma well controlled. I am surprisingly pleased and, sadly, a little overwhelmed. Because this is working so well I feel like I can't give up now and like that darn little engine that could I am somewhere on my way up the hill. Grocery shopping yesterday was quite a chore as I made my way from Kings to Sunflower Market. Now, please don't get me wrong, I would move mountains for my son to feel better, especially breathe, but I can't just dash into the store and grab something anymore and I have to consciously think about what I am going to cook at least 24 hours ahead of time. If you know me real well you know that I am not the most organized person on the planet and planning and being ahead of the game are really not my strong suit and I tend to get stressed out pretty easily. I am working on it though and have lists coming out my wazoo(I have to remember to take the list with me though) and am feeling pretty good myself so that is a real plus. We're getting greener, cleaner and more organic by the day!

Baby Fix

I got a baby fix yesterday! I think one of the best things about going to MOPS in this season of my life is all the babies!! One of the girls that sits at my table nanny's for a 6 month old and also has a baby of her own so when she needs someone to hold one of the little ones I am more than happy to help. During yesterday's MOPS it was nap time for one of them so I got to rock one of them to sleep, yay me!! It's just like riding a bike, you never forget that mommy-swing-bounce, and they smell so good!! It was a good day!

A gold star for Megan

I had a mini parent-teacher conference with Megan's preschool teacher this morning. I missed her's last week because Mitch had a bad asthma attack that morning and we had to cancel. She got an amazingly glowing report. I can't say I am surprised, but Megan is much different than Mitch and doesn't really like to do what she is told on command, and especially for someone new, so I was surprised at her "test scores". She has made leaps and bounds since she has started at Happy Valley and her teacher is most impressed with her fine motor skills and artistic ability. Hey, what can I say?!! So, I have to admit, I wasn't overly concerned with Megan's conferencegoing in because she knows her alphabet, her colors and draws and colors on every piece of paper in the house, but she got a really good report and it is nice to know that she, too, is doing well and thriving in school.

New Friends

We took a trip to Biuld a Bear yesterday and Mitch and Megan brought home 2 new friends. They had a really good time getting to make their own stuffed animal and are taking extra special care of them at home. Mitch got a dog named Mati, of course, and Megan brought home Princess Cinderella Kitty!

Amazing, uplifting day

Today was AWEsome! I attended the MOPS International Summit that was held locally in Arvada (and broadcast to 56 other sites internationally) and it was amazing and totally and utterly what I needed in my life as a mom right now. As always they pull out all of the stops and catered to us moms in Leadership and always have spectacular speakers. I've gone for the past 3 years but I think this might have been my favorite so far. In less than 5 hours I got to hear and meet Danny Oertli sing, give his testimony AND see, meet and hear Margaret Feinberg! AWESOME!! I have been listening to Danny Oertli since I was 18 and in college at UNC!! Then Margaret Feinberg...can you find another amazing Christian woman who can sum up the gospel in a context that I can understand and relate it to what my heart needs and is feeling? She is so great and pretty darn cute on top of that!

My heart is full, full, full after a day of uplifting speakers, training and some time spent with women on our Leadership team. Now it's time to "make it work!" Okay, so words from Tim Gunn don't really fit right there but I had to try and maybe this week I will do it looking super cute! ; )

One day down

We made it through one day of a pretty dairy-free, gluten-free day for Mitch. He hasn't needed his rescue inhaler at all today and that is a big improvement. I am not saying it is the diet or the many other things we are trying right now. He really didn't complain too much about the change in the menu today other than he still looks for Frosted Flakes for breakfast, but those have been nixed for weeks. I think all in all we are pretty lucky. There are so many more options for gluten-free products if this is the way we need to go for him and when I went shopping yesterday it was overwhelming but not impossible to find things. Who knows, maybe it'll help with operation muffin top in the long run!! : )

Eating Clean

Mitch's asthma has been on the not great to bad side lately and many of the meds he is taking don't seem to be doing the trick for him. Frank and I feel helpless and after consulting with a few friends and other health professionals we are going green for health. For a little over 2 weeks now I have been hitting the grocery aisles in search of healthier choices and trying to limit Mitch's intake of dairy. This week we are limiting gluten and we will see if that helps too. While we limit things we are also trying to increase fruits and veggies, especially orange and yellow ones. We'll see how it goes. I am absolutely aghast at the cost of it but it does taste amazingly better and if it will help Mitch and all of us to feel better then I am 110% on board.
