Tempted
This Lent thing has been so much harder than I expected! It seems like at every turn I am tempted by what I gave up. Yesterday in the grocery store at the check stand was really hard!
I am reading a really awesome book by Margaret Fineberg called The Sacred Echo and in April I will be getting to hear her speak again at the MOPS Summit in Denver. Her words are definitely helping to get me through this temptation.

Walking buddy
My dear, sweet walking buddy (or one of) isn't doing so hot this week. He is my best 'ol buddy who we rescued from Hurricane Katrina 4 years ago. Earlier in the week I noticed that his smile was a little crooked and he just wasn't eating as well. After a trip to the vet(oh, yeah, did I mention he is our dog!) it turns out that 3 of his teeth needed to come out and to do that they had to do surgery. Coming out of the anesthesia has been hard for him because of his age; we estimate that he is around 14. So he has been moping around and looking for lots of attention. Good thing we have Nurse Megan! He gets round the clock nursing care and she just can't figure out why the dog tooth fairy hasn't shown up yet!!

Lent
Lent began on Wednesday and I painfully prayed, stewed and pondered over what to give up for the next 40 days. Last year I went all out and gave up my all time favorite TV show. I decided that I wanted to do something different this year and something that would be difficult enough to remind me of what Christ gave up for us and also would teach me patience. It could be a long 38 more days because the last 2 have been a lot more difficult than I thought. Temptation seems to lurk at every corner. Pray for me and possibly I will share with you what I gave up on April 5th.

16 years and 18 months
Over the weekend Frank and I celebrated 16 years of being in love. Technically, we have known each other for 17, and if you haven't heard the infamous story of our meeting it really is something! : ) It's best if it comes from me though because Frank usually leaves out all the good details...his super short shorts, suntan lotion in the elevator and my awful sunburn. I'm still totally, madly in love with him after so many years. We will have so many crazy stories to tell our grandchildren someday and I just can't believe I am still so in love with the man who sat behind me on my freshman choir trip some 17 years ago and then took to a monster truck show for our first date but later made up for such a crazy date with a picnic date to the mountains when he saw how horrified I was at the monster truck show.
It's also been 18 months since my hysterectomy. Some days I can't believe how fast it's gone by. There are days when I hardly think about my surgery, what I went through, the loss, yada, yada and then there are others that there are constant physical and emotional reminders just around the corner. It's not bad though, and I feel so much better than I did the summer before I had my surgery that really nothing compares to the pain and sickness I was feeling. So I will take a little wider berth to my hips(and workout more) and a few extra zits once a month if that is the price I now have to pay for my health.

More sick
Now Megan has the sick that has been going around. I really thought we were safe since Mitch was on antibiotics and I had been a freak about cleaning things, but I guess not. So she has yucky tonsils and a fever. I took her to the doctor today and since this is the third time she has basically had the same thing in six weeks we are being referred to a pediatric ENT(ear, nose and throat) doctor at Children's Hospital. Hooray!! Not hooray for her but maybe they will tell us what's up with this.
On the canine note, (**groan**) our dog Mazie is one sick puppy. Last night while we were gone for my dad's birthday dinner she ate an ENTIRE bag of dark chocolates. After we put the kids in bed she started acting weird and then came the vomiting. Long story short, we rushed her off to the doggie hospital where she spent the night and she may be coming home soon. Poor little dog! And I feel so awful because I was the one who left the chocolate where she could get to it!! aahhhhh!! We are all thanking our lucky stars that she is alive and didn't have a stroke or anything like that because chocolate, especially dark chocolate, is very toxic to dogs. Again, I want to kick myself.
So, long week in the Wernlein household! Pray for sleep, peace and sanity!

Happy 32nd to me!
Happy 32nd Birthday to me!
Today was a pretty typical day in the day of birthday's to me. Mitch is still sick and I took him back to the doctor today and he has a sinus infection and an ear infection so now he is on antibiotics(thank goodness!), and I am hoping he will be feeling much better tomorrow. I did get the chance to have donuts, a vanilla latte and a little shopping this morning with a really cute girl. We also had ice cream cones for dessert...YUMMY! Thanks for all the special birthday wishes!
Pre-Birthday Weekend Celebration
Frank always makes a point to make sure my birthday is special and this year we planned a special pampering weekend for the 2 of us but since Mitch was still sick we didn't make it to the massage, pedicure(for me) and relaxing evening at home. instead we escaped for a few hours, thanks to my parents and saw The Blind Side and had dinner at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. It was a wonderful afternoon and what an excellent movie! On Sunday my mom and I went shopping for a few hours, hit some amazing sales and then we all went over to Traci and Phil's for the Superbowl. Even though it was the weekend we had planned it was tons and tons of fun!

Barking, again
Mitch is sick, again. Poor guy! I really feel bad for him. This is about the 3rd time he has been sick since just the first of the year. And what would be just a simple head cold is made much worse because of his asthma. With all of the coughing and barking it's a little like living in the sea lion exhibit at the zoo. We're all hoping to get through the weekend with some extra rest because on Monday this mommy wants to eat chocolate donuts, shop and PARTY!! Party with 2 cute kids that is, of course!
