Elbow update

A little(or major would be more like it) update on Mitch's elbow...as it turns out, he actually has a fractured elbow. This morning he woke up with his arm swollen from his elbow to his fingers and in a lot of pain and I just didn't that was normal for a sprain so I took him into our regular doctor who made the diagnosis of a broken elbow and sent us to have it set and cast by a pediatric orthopedic doctor. It was a day of doctors and Mitch was real trooper! He has been totally spoiled and has gotten 2 new Transformers and a new Tom and Jerry movie out of the deal that he is in love with. Oh, and I should mention that he has to wear the cast for 3 weeks so he and Megan both are looking forward to her birthday. I'll keep you updated on how he is doing. I know many of you knew we were suppose to be going out of town this weekend but I think we will do some fun things around town and just take it easy.

Mitch on the DL

It's been a long, weird, long, stressful, weird, crazy day! Poor Mitch, when I went to pick him up at gym camp today he was crying and very upset. Turns out he hyper-extended and sprained his right arm. We took him to Urgent Care and they did a great job of patching him up. The rest of the day he got spoiled and watch so much TV that he actually asked to read a book or go outside! He is suppose to rest and keep him arm immobile for 24 hours and then keep it in the sling for 5 days. He's a trooper but he has been cracking me up with his Mitchisms and words on what he can't do now that he has his arm bandaged up. Here are just a few...
I can't play Leapster left handed because how could I make Sonic jump?
How will I get dressed?
How will I go potty?
I can still walk with a hurt arm, right?
It's going to take me twice as long to eat because I only have one hand that can get the food in my mouth.

Goodbye MJ!

I couldn't get on and post anything today without mentioning the passing of Michael Jackson today. When I heard it on the news and then heard Thriller on the radio I kind of got goose bumbs. My BBF Jennifer and I used to spend endless hours in the summer making up dances to his music and fighting over who got the good Michael Jackson doll. May he rest in peace now because the last few years haven't been good to him.

If you want to watch Thriller one more time just for 'ol times sake here it is...

French book club

Last night I had June book club aka "French book club" to top off the reading of Julie and Julia. We had a fabulous time and enjoyed French champagne, French onion soup, salad and my homemade Napoleons. Bon Apetite Julia Child!

These hives are gonna make me crazy!!

Frank took this picture of me Saturday and I thought it was hilarious because it really kind of expresses how I feel lately...blah!! Megan has had these dumb hives that just come and go for about a 2 weeks now. We thought we had them under control and then tonight they just popped back up for no reason. Really, they are going to make me crazy! Last week I had to take her in to the doctor(mind you she was healthy other than the hives) and of course she caught a nasty cold that she shared with Frank right away and now I can't tell if I have it or if I am just tired and my allergies are bad. Whine, whine, whine, I know! So if anyone knows about crazy hives let me know or don't because the more information I get it tends to make me a little nutty!
At least I have book club tomorrow and we are doing "French book club" since we just finished Julie and Julia so I will get a nice little "mommy break" for a few hours. If you are looking for a good book to read it was great. I have 2 copies(long story) so feel free to borrow one from me if you want to read it.

Father's Day weekend

We had a busy weekend full of picnics and parties. We are still fighting off colds, allergies and Megan's hives reappeared tonight so that was unwelcomed but it was a fun weekend anyway and here are lots of pics to prove it!

Oh hail!

So after our hike we had the kids all nestled down for their naps/rests and Frank and I were going to watch a movie when suddenly the sky went green, we had wind coming out of no where and quarter size hail hitting the house. A small funnel cloud went over the house at about 2:45pm and this is just one good picture from our backyard. My poor vegetable garden is a goner as are a lot of my other plants but they'll make it. Tonight I am just mourning my poor spinach and cucumbers!

Our first hike of the summer

We went for our first family hike today around Standley lake. We didn't make it too far until the kids found the water. Long story short, they came home in their diaper/underwear smelling like old fish!! It was a fun morning and we have had so much rain that everything is really green.

Up to their knees in the water!
Megan loved playing on the shore

What we're reading and watching

One thing I used to love about summer as a kid was lazy days spent reading. I used to love (still do) spending hours in the library looking for new books to read and then devouring them under a shady tree, on my bed, flopped over the couch, really anywhere I could find during the months of June, July and August. Now that summer vacation is here I have been taking the kids to the library and trying to spend afternoons reading with them. Mitch can read now and has already finished reading 16 books on his own since the beginning of June and on Tuesday we took him to Cold Stone for ice cream to celebrate.

I love to know what other people are reading and watching just in case I might want to pick it up to so I thought I would share what we have been viewing at our house lately...

I'm reading Julie and Julia by Julie Powell for book club but last weekend I finished Sarah's Key and I have to say, that might have been the best book I read in the past sixth months.

Frank and I have Netflix and we just got Revolutionary Road in the mail today but our last 3 movies we watched were Seven Pounds, Get Smart and Changeling. All were good but Get Smart was probably the best of the 3. I love anything funny and with a decent plot and Frank used to watch the Get Smart TV shows so he really liked it. The kids are really into Tom and Jerry and I just got them a DVD of 14 of the original Tom and Jerry cartoons from 1948. They are in heaven and since it was rainy today they watched a good portion of it.

I'm always looking for a good read so if you have a suggestion please pass it on. Next on my pile is Angels and Demons but I am not sure I will get to it before July book club which is Loving Frank so I may have to pick a shorter one. I'll keep you posted!!

About my bloggy break

I had to take a break from blogging for a bit after Mitch finished preschool. We had a bit of a crisis the week Frank was gone in Seattle and Mitch was finishing up preschool and it got to be a little too much to handle and keep everyone cheer-ily informed on our goings on. Things are back in order and we are settling into a routine now. Mitch has been out of school for almost 3 weeks and this week he is taking a class on dinosaurs and volcanoes that will keep him busy for 2 days. Megan did really well at her big girl gym class today, ran right in all by herself and had a marvelous time. Things are growing and changing, just like He intended. I am trying to be patient, pray and not get my hands too dirty by mucking up the process. I'm glad the kids are resilient and I thank all of you for being patient with me and for praying for our family in the last few weeks.

Megan's big show

On the balance beam

Chillin'

Showing off

Megan getting her medal from Miss Anna
Megan had her last parent-child gymnastics class last Tursday and tomorrow starts her very first big girl class where she will go in all by herself. Last week her class had a little show to present all of their skills they had learned in the last 6 months and they even got medals. She did so great and was a real show-off. It's been so fun to watch her in this class and man does she love to do a forward roll!

A True Kindergartener

Mitch lost his 2nd tooth on Friday afternoon(no I did not knock this one out, thank you!!)!! So now he looks and talks like a real Kindergartener! Isn't he cute?! He actually pulled this one out and was so upset with himself that he cried and cried. Once I finally got him calmed down we talked about teeth and he told me he didn't want to loose all of his teeth and have NO teeth! He thought that all of your teeth fell out before you got new ones(honest mistake), we laughed about it and I explained that he would only be missing 4 teeth at the most at any one time and that new ones would come in right after the baby ones. He asked "Why?"! and I told him that this was just the way God made us. He looked at me and said, "mom, I'm really not sure about this how God made you stuff."!! Another funny is while I was trying to get Mitch to calm down I told him the tooth fairy would be coming again tonight. Megan got really excited and asked Mitch to sleep in his room! Megan is all about the toothfairy part of this and can hardly wait for her own teeth to start to fall out. The tooth fairy did come, Megan couldn't stay awake long enough and she brought Mitch a dollar and left behind some fairy dust.

Dirt Injectonator

Last weekend Frank put his newest creation to the test...the DIRT INJECTONATOR!!! He has been planning this creation for 2 weeks now and building it in his shop at work and last week he tested it. It worked but not to his liking so he took it back in for some modifications and...tada he is now as happy as a clam injecting dirt(compost) all over our yard. To explain what it does, he puts a mixture of compost and water into the barrel and then turns the hose on (at some speed that will force it into the ground) and this will then break up our wonderful CO clay!! The kids LOVE it and get so dirty playing in all the dirt and mud. It can keep all 3 of them entertained for hours!!
